Gao Shifu Achievement Presentation

Kuskus, Hengchun Peninsula - With the improvement of environmental protection awareness and the advancement of community development, Kuskus will hold a presentation on the "Hengchun Peninsula's Secret Botanical World - Kuskus" on October 18 (Friday), inviting all sectors to participate and share the ecological diversity and cultural heritage of this land.
Hengchun Peninsula is located in the center of the southeast-southwest climate zone and is an important area for plant dispersal and migration. According to previous studies, this area is considered to have special significance by plant geographers. During the Japanese colonial period, botanists Sasaki Shunichi, Soma Seizaburo and Hayata Bunzo recorded more than 10 plants named after Gaoshi Buddha, highlighting the uniqueness of the plants of the Gaoshi tribe.
Currently, the low-altitude primeval forests near Gaoshifu are considered to have rich biodiversity, with more than 70 rare plant species recorded. However, with the convenience of development, these precious natural resources are facing serious threats. Since the end of 2022, under the guidance of the Pingtung Branch of the Forestry and Conservation Administration and the National Pingtung University of Science and Technology, the Gaoshi tribe has surveyed 332 plant species and established a unique multi-layered agroforestry system, fully demonstrating the advantages of a resilient community.
The theme of this conference is "The Secret Botanical World of Hengchun Peninsula - Gaoshi Buddha". The conference will display the book, the survey results of the tribe's important ethnic plants, and the promotion and application of family farms. The book includes the geographical location of the Gaoshi tribe, the migration of ethnic groups, an introduction to crafts and beliefs, and an introduction to plants related to Gaoshi Buddha, aiming to share the traditional knowledge and wisdom of the tribe with more people.
